I love the summer

So...I love the summer. Yes, LOVE. I do whatever the heck I want, whenever I want, and it's all fun. Because even the housework is fun believe it or not. When you've been stressing over your job all year and then finally have a good chunk of time off, it's amazing let me tell ya. I've really made an effort to work out more, and I feel pretty good about my efforts. No, I haven't been amazing gym girl who lives at 24 Hour Fitness for hours on end, but I really have been going at least 3 times a week, which is up from 0. I've been taking cycling classes, zumba classes, power sculpting, and working out on my own. I have to say I feel pretty good. Except for this little stomach fat that won't go away-but I'm sure that's due to my sweet tooth. So I feel good. I'm healthy, slightly tan, life is good :o) (I know there's more to life than this, don't worry).

Next week marks the beginning of the Sims/ Anderson wedding festivities. As it is I am obsessed with weddings, and when one of my dear friends is getting married it's even more special. To get mentally prepared I've been doing things like looking at hairdos online, watching Say Yes To the Dress, reminiscing with my own wedding photos and I am ready! I love being married to Patrick we have a great time together, and I know Becca and Ryan will feel the same. They are truly special people.

After their wedding, Patrick and I will be driving like crazy fools to California for Colby and Ashley's wedding. So the obsessed with weddings girl gets to go to two in one weekend! Woo hoo! After their wedding I'm going to try to talk Patrick into taking me to Knott's Berry Farm. I've never been and I've heard that the rides are better than Disney Land-well then, bring it on! Shortly after we'll be going camping with the whole Jones clan in central California. Moro Bay is apparently a beautiful place, and near some wineries...you know what that means :o) I'm very much looking forward to these events on our "scheduled" vacation. As for the rest, I will be doing (you guessed it) whatever I want! Life is good.

Patrick and I went to Sean's "going away" party last night. He's going to New York to make it big. We all wish him well. I really hope he achieves everything he's been dreaming about for years now.

I just thought these pictures were adorable. We really are a family of Angels fans :o)

Duh duh duh duh DUH....the dentist

Going to the dentist-what a joke.

So I hate the dentist-HATE with a capital H. They're usually rough on my teeth, cause pain, cost me tons of money and not so trustworthy.

I walk into the dentist with a huge knot in my stomach because of what I explained above. The x-ray technician takes 19, yes 19 x-rays. That seems a little excessive to me, but whatever I know that's covered under my insurance. So then I go sit in the chair, the dentist comes and talks to me. I know right away he's mormon. Why are all dentists mormon? He did the small talk thing and I found out he's an alum of Mountain View (which only confirmed the mormon suspicion) and then explained this tooth I'm having trouble with. He asked me like twice if I have insurance, which set off a big red flag in my head. I thought, alright what are you going to tack on here that I don't need? So everything he explains to me makes sense and I'm starting to put a little-NOT A LOT- of trust in this guy. He seemed semi legit. So then the "financial" lady came and told me my break down. $146 for scaling (extremely painful cleaning) one tooth, flouride varnish and antibacterial wash.

Wait, it gets better. So I go into another room where the dental hygenist can do the cleaning. She scales my one tooth that hurts. I'm sitting there cringing in my chair and she says, "Does that bother you?" Hmmm, no I like wrinkling my face just for the fun of it. But instead I decide to say, "yes" as I taste the blood gushing down my throat. Keep in mind this is just the one tooth. So then she pulls out this professional strength flouride varnish. Wipes it all over my tooth that is still throbbing. She was nice enough to use the rest of the varnish in the little package on other teeth that she thought could use it. I'll give her that one. So far with that +1, she's at -19. So then she's like, "well that was easy." I said, "What about my cleaning? That's what I came in for." She said, "the dentist must not have thought you needed a cleaning, your teeth look great." I said, "It's been years since my last cleaning, I doubt he doesn't want me to get it done." So she goes back to talk to him and figure out what's going on. Turns out it was "miscommunication." She was supposed to do the cleaning, then the scaling and varnish. But now that this flouride varnish is already on my teeth I can't have the cleaning done today. She tries to blame it on the dentist saying that his priority was the pain first (my one tooth), but in reality she could have done it all in probably 15 short minutes. So there's this screen by my head with my bill on it-which I'm very grateful for. I said, "Did you do the antibacterial irrigation?" She said, "no, I don't think you need it..." and explained why. So we're going more into the negetive here. Either the dentist is trying to drain my money with an unnecessary procedure or she made another mistake. Regardless, I decide $40 less on my bill is fine with me. So she says, "I'll have the front lady give you a credit towards your next cleaning for that." I said, "No, it needs to come off my bill. That procedure wasn't even done." She says, "Well I'll see what they can do." So she goes up to the front desk with me, says the antibacterial irrigation wasn't done because I didn't need it and the lady says she'll take it right off. Alright, I like the financial lady a little more.

So I have to schedule another appointment for tomorrow to get my teeth cleaned-waste of time. I ask to look at her screen with my bill on it and it says $86. So I check it over and somehow it doesn't make sense to me that $146-$40 antibacterial junk = $86, but I will not complain. So I pay the bill and now I have to go back tomorrow. Did I mention how much I hate the dentist?? But there is good news: no cavities!!

Tour-the biggest hassle of my job.

So I'm trying to plan this tour to sing with Dr. Mark Lawlor at Carnegie Hall-oh my gosh is it a pain. There is expense after expense that just keeps adding up and adding up. My original HOPE of the price has added $300 per student to it-ha, great. I can see the flood of parent phone calls now as soon as I tell them to tack on an extra $300. Bleh. Plus the district has so many rules about travel that I've been running around like mad trying to get this paperwork going. And of course they assume that I know-except that I don't because this is going to be my second year of teaching, BUT it will be my first trip (maybe my last, lol).

I walked into the school office today in my workout clothes (yeah, it was cute) and the secretary says, "what are you doing here?" I said, "my work is never done" only it was in a "I-just-wanted-to-be-on-vacation-this-summer" kind of way. I called Copley, the master of finding money for students, and she gave me some good ideas for fundraising. I'll let you in on a little secret...I'm praying for a miracle. Yup, I'm praying for a $40,000 check to be made from a donor to go toward this trip. No I don't know who it will be, no, I don't know where it's coming from (that's where the faith comes in). But I'm believing for it. So pray with me because I want these kids to experience singing at Carnegie Hall and not have to worry about where the money will come from to fund their way. God is big :o)

School's Out for Summer!

Well, school is finally out. I have been on vacation for less than a week and I already love it. I have all kinds of plans for cleaning organizing, painting, you name I'm gonna do it (to my house). Honestly, I'm thrilled that I have this opportunity to get my house to where I would like it to be. We've lived here for nearly a year and still have unpacked boxes (which I've heard from many is quite common). BUT! I'm ready to unpack :o)

We just had my parents, grandparents, brother and his girlfriend over for a BBQ and it was fun. Patrick grilled ribs and chicken, roasted some corn on the cob-it was delicious.

Yesterday we went on a shopping spree to decorate. We got a bunch of stuff-and believe it or not Patrick was really having a good time. We went to Home Goods, Hobby Lobby, Z Gallerie-quite the adventure. But we came out with lots of fun stuff! I have a feeling I'm going to really like this staying home thing :o)

How Women are different than Men:

1. Men cut a piece of pie, and eat is as though it were finger food. Women use a plate and fork (as it was intended).

My husband does this with a lot of food, not just pie. Men, they are an interesting type.

Patrick and I spent the day in God's word today, confessing good health and healing. I must say it's been an amazing experience for me, just being with God. I strongly recommend to anyone that feels blah or like you're just going through the motions to set aside a day to just be in the presence of God-it's so sweet.

School is going pretty well. Tomorrow is already May and I'm thinking how little of the year is left. I feel really good about the end of the year, and I even feel a little sad that the seniors are moving on to bigger and better things. In Chamber on Wednesday we made music that satisfies the deepest depths of a person's soul. I really can't put words down to describe it, but I do know that once we realized the meaning behind the text music flowed like honey. It's those moments that I hold on to for as long as possible. All in all I feel very at peace about work. I've just realized that I've been stressed the whole year almost without break. But now, now I feel such a peace. God has given me peace in my work-what a wonderful answer to prayer! I know there is still much to do before the school year is over, but it will all get done eventually. I'm putting my priorities in order.

We took Kiri and Ella to the dog park today-we haven't been in a while. Ella was so excited she could hardly stop "talking" (something between a whine and excitement). They played in the pond, shook off near me and Patrick several times, and then came home and took a nap. Dogs are great pets. They keep you active and always love you, at least mine do :o) They're the perfect substitute for children right now too. Patrick took Ella out by herself to go get the mail and left Kiri behind (because she's not as good off leash as Ella). Kiri was whining and whining so I said to her, "well dear, if you would stay close by when we ask you, you would be able to go get the mail more often." (I like to think she's my kid and she understands :o)

I wave farewell to April and welcome May with open arms.
